Wiergate is a small and also an unincorporated coterie situated in Newton County in Texas. Both Bon Wier and Wiergate were established for the same exact reason, they distributed as a company town for Wier Longleaf Lumber Company which was the last of lumber operations in East Texas operated by Robert Withrow and his family in 1917. The town’s zenith of the population was in the 1920s and the 1930s when there were more than 2,500 people, but when the lumber mill was sold, the town’s population decreased to around 450 residents which makes the present population of the town.
