Windthorst is a town situated in both Archer and Clay counties in Texas. The community of Windthorst had its start in 1891 when Clark Plumb Pasture Company sold seventy-five thousand acres of land in the area to establish a town. The town was granted a post office just one year later with the name of Windthorst. The name Windthorst comes from a German Catholic statesman named Ludwig Windthorst. The town’s total area is 2.5 square miles according to the U.S Bureau. Windthorst’s public education system is being served by the Windthorst Independent School District. The population of the town was 409 as of the 2010 census.
