Winfield is a small city situated in Titus County in Texas. The town had its beginnings in the 1880s when the Texas and St. Louis Railway was being built in the area. The citizens of Gray Rock refused to donate a part of their land so the railway would go through the town, so W.C. Barret donated the land just one mile northeast of Gray Rock, so the railway went through his property and so a community was established by the name of Barret. It was renamed to Carr when a post office was built in 1877 and the first postmaster of the town was Patrick H. Carr. The town was renamed in 1892 to its current name, Winfield, to honor the general passenger agent of the built railroad named W.H. Winfield. The town of Winfield had a total population of 524 residents as of the 2010 census.
