Wink is a city situated in Winkler County in Texas. The town of Wink’s settlement began in 1926 when oil was discovered in Hendrick Oilfield in the county. By the year 1927, the Wink Townsite Company already started selling the lots in the area. The townsite was initially called Winkler after the county, but it was changed after a post office was granted that same year because of the townsite company. Before the Great Depression, the city had a reported population of around six thousand, the actual population of the town estimated from ten thousand to twenty-five thousand. In recent years, the population of the town was 940 as of the 2010 census. The total area of the town is 1.2 square miles as stated by the U.S Bureau.
