Wortham is a town situated in Freestone County in Texas. The town where Wortham is located now was granted to a certain Robert B. Longbotham by Mexico in 1834. The community didn’t really start in the area until the Houston and Texas Central Railway arrived in the townsite. The town’s name was Long Bottom but the name only lasted until 1874 and was changed to honor Col. Rice Wortham. The town has a total area of two square miles according to the U.S Bureau. As of the 2010 census, the town’s population was 1,073. The town’s public education system is being provided by the Wortham Independent School District.
