Yorktown is a city located in DeWitt County in Texas. Captain John York was the founder of the town with Charles Eckhardt. Captain John York is also the namesake of the town, he was a famous Indian fighter. The town of Yorktown was incorporated in 1871. The town’s population was at its peak in the 1950s when there were 2,596 people in the community, and the town’s estimated population in 2018 was 2,073. The town’s total area is 1.7 square miles as stated by the U.S Bureau, and all of it is land. The public’s education system is being provided by the Yorktown Independent School District.
