The Garden @ The High Plains Food Bank in Amarillo, Texas, is serving a full production farm and the cornerstone of the Nutrition Education Program since 2009. After a year, the one-acre site has already 20,000 lbs of "fresh beans, cantaloupe, cucumbers, herbs, lettuce, peppers tomatoes, and many more". But the primary goal of The Garden is not just to produce healthy food but also to "teach others to have organic food in their yard". They have monthly workshops that have a variety of topics for the first time and experienced gardeners. The Gee Family is formerly known as the Amazingly Fun Farm. They have educational activities that include shelling corn, grinding wheat and learning how to harvest sweet corn and cotton. Children will "absolutely loved" the "field trip". It is a "great place to spend family time and have some fun getting lost in the corn maze". Gee Family’s Gourmet Sweet Corn is sh2 (super sweet). The Murphy family who owns this place never use any pesticides, herbicides, or equipment when growing and harvesting their produce. They even pull their weeds and pick the vegetables themselves and upkeep the garden with just a garden hoe and shovel.
