If you are a true-blooded Texan (or American) and you want to sample the desserts from across the Atlantic, then there is a place in Wolforth, Texas that you might want to visit soon. Miss Kates Place prides itself as an authentic British bakery. The owner describes herself as "British born and raised with a strong Scandinavian/Gaelic heritage" who grew up surrounded by cooking during her formative years. Clearly, this part of her early years latched strongly to her, which explains why she pursued this line of business. It is a win-win situation actually; with British food the center of her life here in the US, Kate has that part of her life with her here. Texans, on the other hand, are treated to British baked goods - crumpets, Victoria sponge loaves, Yorkshire puddings, and many more!    

Two of the many great things that came out of the kitchen of Riley’s Hideaway are the cookie tours and the kolaches. The Cookie Tour is a set of cookies with different flavors. It is ingenious actually, since you are excited to sample each cookie flavor you don't get sated easily. It is not just eating or snacking, but a journey, an exploration. Each unique taste takes you somewhere with its flavor and aroma. Imagine having slice each of Chocolate Babka, Lemon Blueberry Welsh Cake, Hazelberry Linzer, Stroopwafel, Lemon Olive Oil Cake, Apricot Rugelach, and Chocolate Dulce de Leche Cookie. I dare you to stop eating. Riley’s Hideaway also makes kolaches. These are Czech pastries with fruit or cheese at the center (some flavors they've made recently include Cream cheese, Peach, Poppyseed, and Blueberry Cheesecake).    

He started High Adventure Sweets so that he has money to pay for Boy Scout High Adventure trips and equipment. Smart. Enterprising. Confident. Optimistic. He has a lot of positive qualities that I'm sure will be nurtured by his Boy Scout experiences, so I say support him and buy his banana bread and apple bread because these taste great! With his natural gift of making great-tasting bread, I hope that soon, High Adventure Sweets is not just a means to an end but a labor of love and a full-time passion.
