Galveston Island Brewing

Galveston Island Brewing’s Mark Dell’Osso established the brewery in June 2014. Mark is a former home brewer and tugboat captain who’s had stints with various breweries. Co-workers used to enjoy his homemade beers at after-work parties. A version of that popular home brew, Blue Bridge Hoppy Amber, won bronze at the 2017 Great American Beer Festival. His Tiki Wheat, the brewery’s bestselling flagship beer, and four other year-round staples, sustain the Galveston brewery’s “island vibes”. Bakfish Brewing Company

Bakfish Brewing Company has a distinction that no one can ever take away -- Pearland’s first craft brewery and brewpub. Established by friends Brian Allen and Kris Szecsy, they quit their jobs to establish the brewery in 2016. Houston metro area’s third largest city was somewhat of a “beer desert” because it had no local brewery of its own prior to its opening. With a 2,000 square foot air-conditioned taproom and a large covered patio, the brewery accommodates seating for about 300. Saloon Door Brewing Co

Fetching Lab Brewery

The owners of Fetching Lab Brewery are Brett Bray and Theresa Hutchings, but everyone knows that Bella is both mascot and CEO. Brett was a real-life NASA scientist while Theresa worked as quality assurance lead at one of world’s largest airplane manufacturers. According to Brett and Theresa, we can’t show Bella a ball or she’ll ask you to play “fetch” the whole day long. You see, Bella’s a Yellow Lab, and pretty much runs the whole place. Galveston Bay Beer Company

The interesting thing about the brewery besides its beers is its commitment to preserving Galveston County’s rich beer brewing history, which dates back to 1895. A native of Tucson, Arizona, Eric first joined the Navy and then the Army. In the course of his military career, he eventually transferred to Fort Hood, and in 2011, moved to Austin. After volunteering in various breweries, he decided to open his own brewery in 2016. Along the way, he almost shuttered his plans because of a foundation problem with the first building he leased. Brigadoon Brewery & Brew School

Baileson Brewing Company

Established by husband Adam Cryer and his wife, Sarah Pope, the Baileson Brewing Company features two of man’s best friends – beers and pooches. The “pooches” part come from the company’s name – a combination of the couple’s two dogs Bailey and Jameson. (They have a third fur baby called Beau, who came later.) The brewery, of course, supplies the handcrafted beers, especially ales. Located in the outskirts of the Rice Village area in Houston, the brewery was an old gas station built in 1950 until the building became an auto-service station in the mid-1970s. The couple retained the exterior canopy, which serves as the brewpub’s patio, and fitted it with picnic tables. They allow non-beer fans to bring wine from their neighbor next door, and allow outside food. The place, of course, is “dog-friendliest”, with the couple claiming that their pooches “have better social lives” than their humans.

Under The Radar Brewery

As with other craft breweries, Under The Radar Brewery got its start in homebrewing. Its three founders brewed in their garage until they realized they could bring their hobby to the next level. Starting out small and opening without so much as a sign, the brewery’s name suggests how things were initially done at the brewery. It also found a perfect spot among condos and townhomes, and further bolsters the under-the-radar nature of the brewery. Their taproom, though small, has an outdoor area, and serves five “usuals” (their core beers) and a couple of seasonal/ special beers. The Phoenix On Westheimer

Established in December 2006, Phoenix On Westheimer is a Houston neighborhood brewpub. This “home-away-from-home” invites guests to “a welcoming place” and features an extensive selection of house brews and craft beers from other popular Texas breweries. There is wine, cocktails, and non-alcoholic beverages, of course, and the food menu is just as extensive. Because it’s a sports bar, after all, there are 5 large projection screens and 24 LED TVs.
