Karbach Brewing Co

Craft Brewery in Houston - 18.95 mi

Co-founders Ken Goodman and Chuck Robertson started with the distribution company CR Goodman Distribution Co., which brought in various labels into Texas. In 2008, they set out establish their own brewery, and by 2011, Karbach Brewing Company set up brewing operations in Houston. The company grew rapidly fast and the company moved to a larger brewhouse by 2014. In May 2016, the brewery added an on-site restaurant and biergarten. To much publicity in November 2016, the brewery announced the company's acquisition by Anheuser-Busch InBev. With this development, the brewery expects to expand capacity to 150,000 barrels per year in 2019. The brewery continues to produce popular its "mainstays" Hopadillo IPA, Love Street Kolsch-Style Blonde, and Crawford Bock, among others. They also continue to produce their popular seasonal and specialty series beers. Tip: The brewery conducts daily tours with schedules posted on their website. Eureka Heights Brewing Company

The six owners of Eureka Heights Brewing Company, three married couples actually, named their brewery after a fault line that runs through The Heights area in Houston. By design, the brewery specializes in “sessionable beers” with low ABVs. Seasonal offerings - some with higher ABVs - complement their core beers. At the spacious 20,000 square feet taproom, a former food distribution warehouse, visitors can see the gleaming stainless steel tanks while enjoying their beers. Definitely, "great beer choices, a great taco truck and gorgeous flowers everywhere!" Furthermore, "pet-friendly, parking is easy, in walking distance to other bars, in a neighborhood area, and has lawn games".

Great Heights Brewing Company

Sean Bednarz and Patrick Christian of Great Heights Brewing Company have been friends since fifth grade. During a camping in the summer of 2015, they stopped by at various breweries in Colorado, and started discussing the possibilities of opening one. In 2017, a few days before Harvey struck, they opened their doors to their new taproom. Prior to opening the brewery, both Sean and Christian held desk jobs with long hours. They say that putting up the company is “living the dream”. What makes their brewery extra special is that they chose to establish it in their old neighborhood of Garden Oaks/ Oak Forest. Today, Sean handles the brewing part while Patrick takes care of the sales side. Tips: The brewery is open daily but hours vary (check their website). The patio is pet-friendly, and there’s soda and popcorn for kids. There are food trucks from Wednesdays to Saturdays, but they don’t mind if you bring food from outside.

Brigadoon Brewery & Brew School

The Brigadoon Brewery & Brew School attempts to recreate the "Scottish Renaissance brewpub". Located on the grounds of the Texas Renaissance Festival, it allows guests to step back in time and see "period specific" brewing equipment and techniques. Opened in 2008, the brewery uses modern equipment, too, but they try to remain an authentic and “unique living history demonstration” of techniques used during the Renaissance period. The brewery takes its name from the 1947 musical of the same name. The musical “centers (on) an enchanted village in Scotland, (and) features an array of traditional music and dance". Each year, at festival time from October to November, the team dons authentic period costumes to serve their beers. Brash Brewing Company

Craft Brewery in Houston - 20.93 mi

Brash Brewing Company is from the same man who brought Houston the famed Petrol Station, Ben Fullelove. The taproom opened to the public in late 2015, but the brewery was actually founded in 2012. Legal hurdles kept Ben from opening the brewery in Texas, and the brewery operated out of Massachusetts at its start. When Texas laws changed in 2013, Brash Brewing moved its operation back to Texas, and Brashland (Brash’s taproom) soon opened. Enthusiasts describe Brash Brewing as an “edgy brewery”. Their in-your-face attitude notwithstanding, the brewery scores many fans with its stouts and IPAs. The taproom is also heavy on the soundtrack with heavy metal playing at the jukebox. “You won’t find any strawberry beers or pilsners on tap,” says a review, but they do feature guest brews from other local breweries. Quick note: Many first-time visitors have difficulties finding Brashland. One last thing - they have circa 80's arcade games available!

Saloon Door Brewing Co

Craft Brewery in Webster - 21.26 mi

Established in 2016, Saloon Door Brewing Company is the creator of several popular and critically acclaimed brews including “Tasty AF Peanut Butter & Chocolate Milk Stout, I Must Break You Russian Imperial Stout, Panhandler Pale Ale and many others.” They make their craft beer in house with a 10-barrel system using only the finest ingredients available. City Acre Brewing Co.

Craft Brewery in Houston - 23.94 mi

Just 10 minutes north of downtown Houston, the City Acre Brewing finally opened in 2016 and Houston fell in love. The four-year delay did the owners a favor. They used the place as an events venue while they completed their Texas permits. Meanwhile, the plants and trees in the area had time to grow, and the brewpub had time to perfect its beers and recipes. When they finally opened, the raised vegetable gardens became a source for the seasonal farm-to-table menu. “I found the setting enchanting,” says one review, “(and) gardeners will enjoy checking out (the garden).” With Adirondack chairs and picnic tables scattered about, “it was quite easy to spend a few hours enjoying the blossoming gardens,” says another.
