Central Machine Works Brewery

Craft Brewery in Austin - 13.22 mi

Located in East Austin, Central Machine Works Brewery features a beer garden with family-friendly areas, food trucks, and a stage for live music. This East Austin brewery and beer hall got its name from the former tenant of the preserved industrial space, the “Central Machine Works” shop. The brewery came about after a group of Austinites fell in love with the space. Central Machine Works Brewery offers a wide range of beers from “American lagers, ales, and IPAs,” as well as some international styles like “kolsch, pilsners and English brown ales.” They also have seasonal beers and guest taps. They have a taproom that has a full bar and all of the drinks they offer are available on-site and for limited distribution.

Acopon Brewing Co

Craft Brewery in Dripping Springs - 13.23 mi

The Acopon Brewing Company was established by the same group who gave Dripping Springs The Barber Shop. Established to provide a focus on English-style ales, the team opened another taproom just a stone’s throw away from the Barber Shop's location. The name is taken from a “restorative or cordial medicine or application”. The taproom opened in September 2017. It provides a selection of craft beers – not just English ales. It even has wine, cider, and sodas for non-fans of craft beers. The brewery follows an “old world model where each town in Germany or England would have their own favorite local brewery”, and the beer could only be found and enjoyed there. They have board games for use by guests, and welcome dogs into the taproom. They don’t serve food, so guests are also welcome to bring food in.

Hi Sign Brewing

Craft Brewery in Austin - 13.36 mi

Hi Sign Brewing takes its name from Hi Sign Road in Lincoln, Montana. The name stuck because Marine Corps veteran Mark Phillippe, the brewery’s founder, spent time with his Dad in a little cabin off Hi Sign Road. It was there that he developed his love for craft beers. After his military stint, Mark found himself searching for his next path. Two mentors, both also in the beverage industry, convinced him to pursue his dream of building his own brewery. The brewery opened in 2017 with Andrew Shelton as head brewer. Andrew brings an extensive brewing background including stints at Texas and Florida breweries. Located in a 6,600 square feet warehouse and situated in a one-acre lot, the airy taproom has ample space for special events. While at the brewery, try the blond ale with “the perfect subtle amount of blueberry” Violet the Blueberry Blonde (5.1% ABV). It’s their bestseller. Hi Sign Brewing has been included in our list of 10 Must-Try Craft Breweries in Austin (2020). Check out the link to read more!

Ponds moved to California and Sabin remaining in Austin. Both worked in the craft beer industry. Their passion eventually brought them back together in Austin and they hired Nathan Crane as head brewer for their new brewery. The company’s name is the Hasinais meaning for the word “Tejas” (or, “Texas”), which refers to a friend or ally. It reflects the company’s aim to be deeply rooted in Austin’s community. With a focus on “West Coast techniques”, the brewery “produces uniquely Texas beers steeped in West Coast brewing techniques”. Even their logo reflects this “dual state” and shows a wolf and a bear. Their current lineup consists of four core beers.

Frontyard Brewing

Craft Brewery in Austin - 14.08 mi

The brewery currently has a lineup of five beers. These consist of the Belgian Blond Ale, Rye IPA, Coffee Milk Stout, Oatmeal Stout, and Belgian Golden Ale. Instead of putting up their own taproom, a “hallmark” of any brewery, the brewery upon launch upended the traditional brewery business plan by selling their beers first around Austin. As of October 2019, the brewery is busy with the construction of their “front yard”. When finished, it will house the brewery’s expanded facilities, and features the company’s very own taproom. Expected to open by spring 2020, owners and founders Kevin Jones and Chad Worner are hoping to see their fans in their “porch” and sipping on a pint. Meanwhile, Frontyard invites its fans to use the brewery's website to learn where their beers are available.

In the intervening years, with a brewery system installed in 1995, the pub started brewing its own beers, and the number of taps increased to 74. It’s included in "America's Best Beer Bars" by Playboy Magazine, maybe back when Playboy was still a purveyor of good taste. This is just, however, among many other accolades from different publications. With “thousands of scrawled messages carved into the wooden tables”, meanwhile, it has seen some of its patrons grow up. Batch – Craft Beer & Kolaches
