Franconia Brewing Co.

Craft Brewery in Fredericksburg - 11.37 mi

Founded by Brewmaster Dennis Wehrmann, Franconia Brewing Co. is a company in McKinney that started operations in 2008. Dennis comes from a long family line of brewmasters. He traces his family’s involvement in beer to a great great grandfather. Grandfather Schaubert owned and operated a brewery in Germany in the 1800s. Dennis also got his start in traditional German brewing practices in Germany until his move to the U.S. in 1999. Under his guidance, Franconia strictly follows the Reinheitsgebot or German Purity Law. They only stray from tradition for special releases. The brewery is also equally known for their “green” brewing practices. The brewery’s eco-friendly facilities include an on-site mini-power plant that works on renewable fuels such as solar and natural gas. 100% of the plant's power requirement comes from these renewable sources. They use 100% natural ingredients and also donate spent mash for conversion to cattle feed by local farmers.

Tupps Brewery

Craft Brewery in McKinney - 11.83 mi

The “Tupps” in TUPPS Brewery is Tupper Patnode, its co-founder, head brewer, and half of a two-man partnership. Its other half is co-founder Keith Lewis, a sales and marketing guy. Together, they blend art and science, and sprinkle in some business savvy to run a successful brewery. They start with great beer, which accounts for the artistic side, and use the senses to create, validate, and refine the beers. The scientific side comes in “to ensure quality and consistency in the brewing process”. A brewery is a business, however, and needs business smarts. For TUPPS, that means using management tools to streamline operations or taking in an excellent distribution partner. It seems Keith and Tupper perfected beer brewing. They opened in 2015, and a year later, production grew by 400 percent in total volume. Visit TUPPS at McKinney’s historic Cotton Mill complex and see for yourself. They have free tours every Saturday at 12:30pm.

Armadillo Ale Works

Craft Brewery in Denton - 18.90 mi

It was a long road to opening their own brewery for Armadillo Ale Works founders Bobby Mullins and Yianni Arestis. The brewery finally opened its doors on June 1, 2018, but their story starts much earlier. It actually starts in 2010 when the resilient duo won a grant to pursue their dream of brewing their own beers. Since then, they’ve run a successful Kickstarter campaign, had a location deal that went south, and overcame alienating their fans because of a supply disruption.  Uniquely, the brewery claims the distinction of having won prestigious industry awards without ever having its own brewing facility. Now settled at their Denton location, they continue to craft their award-winning beers and sodas. They even brew coffee at the taproom. The space is also available for special event venue rentals, with liquid refreshments from the brewery, of course.

Denton County Brewing Company

Craft Brewery in Denton - 19.05 mi

Denton County Brewing Company is the brainchild of Seth and Jen Morgan. The husband and wife initially envisioned the brewery as “Denton’s second living room”, where Denton residents can “(hang) out on your couch”. These days, they call it Denton’s “adult playground (with) board games, trivia nights, delicious appetizers, and the coolest bar staff”. The brewery has been serving craft beers “born and brewed in Denton” since 2017. Besides their house brews, they also serve a selection of wine, sake, ciders, and beers from other local breweries. For $1,000, customers can buy a “Biersal”. With reference to German mythical folklore, Biersal members get a free beer for life. The “Augustine – The Extended Experience” at $295, meanwhile, gives members discounts to beers and early access to new beer releases, among other benefits.

Bitter Sisters Brewing Company

Craft Brewery in Addison - 19.97 mi

Bitter Sisters Brewing Company is the only production brewery in Addison. An independent, family-owned craft brewery, it takes its name from the three "type-A McHugh sisters". Baby brother and wife are part of the business, too, as are the sisters’ husbands. Together, they own Bitter Sisters, and each doing his or her part so the company can produce award-winning craft beers. This makes the brewery and the taproom a real family affair, with beers that have memorable and distinctly female names like Hissy Fit, Cat Fight, Winter Bush, Girls Quad, Bitch Slap, Knock Out, and Busy Body. The brewery started coming together when Brewmaster Matt Ehinger married one of the sisters, Courtney, and quickly realized that beer – his home-brewed beer – made everyone less “bitter”. Eventually, the idea of putting up a brewery was hatched. And as they say, “the family that brews together... has the most fun”!

Four Bullets Brewery

Craft Brewery in Richardson - 19.99 mi

Four Bullets Brewery opened in May 2014 and takes its name from a Texas Hold ‘Em poker term meaning four aces. The brewery is Richardson’s first and fondly called “the smallest brewery in Dallas”. The brewery started with just four craft beer varieties when they opened, and now has over a dozen varieties. The owners like to say they are not in competition with big, large breweries. Instead, they wish to be known as “a neighborhood brewery catering to the Richardson area”.  With tasty offerings like their popular Royal Flush Red Irish-style pale ale, all Four Bullets beers have casino or poker-themed names.

Craft Brewery in Dallas - 20.37 mi

Breaking Brew Meadery is a family-owned brew meadery and is the first mead taproom located in Dallas, Texas. "If you have never tried meads before, this is the place to get your first and learn more about the process and how meads got their taste". Mead is one of the oldest alcoholic beverages which is fermented from honey.  There are "dry, fruity, or hoppy meads" such as the "Ginger Bear" and "Raspberry Beret". 3 Nations Brewing Co.

Craft Brewery in Farmers Branch - 22.13 mi

3 Nations Brewing Co. Founder and brewmaster Gavin Secchi and his four partners combine ancient European brewing traditions with American innovation and ingenuity to come up with its line of craft beers. Their brewing process is “a fresh take on old world style” and launched mainstay beers American Wit and GPA, a German pale ale. Founded in 2015, they’ve since expanded the lineup to include, among others, Texas Gold, Mango Smash IPA, Bull’s Brown Ale, and Haze Wizard IPA. The brewery is celebrating new milestones with a win as Best Brewery in Dallas by the Dallas Observer, and the brewery's move in October 2019 to the Historic Downtown Carrollton (just 1.5 miles from their current location at Farmers Branch). The new facility includes a spacious taproom, patio, and a private events room.  The taproom will also double up as a test market serving new brews.

Knowles Brothers Craft Brewing

Craft Brewery in Flower Mound - 23.58 mi

Bit by bit, they’ve expanded their operations to accommodate bigger tanks and capacities. They’ve even thought of knocking down walls in their houses to realize their dreams. Skott and Bryan Knowles are now deep in the process of realizing Knowles Brothers Craft Brewing’s commercial operations. They’ve been popping up at different events around North Texas, and letting others sample their brews. Their mission is “to brew a wide range of excellent and innovative craft brews”.
