Bar D Brewhouse

Craft Brewery in San Saba - 17.33 mi

San Saba is only a town of about 3,000 but the Pecan Capital of the World shells around 28 million pounds of pecan annually. Bar D Brewhouse, meanwhile, offers a flight of up to eleven craft beers – count ‘em! Not bad for a small town! Bar D opened in 2011 when, after many years, Larry and Jerilyn Davis decided they wanted a change of pace from their jobs. Larry the brewmaster learned how to brew beer while Jerilyn had always been an excellent home cook. Together, they manage and operate the pub and restaurant, and also operate the Bar D Inn. Locals and those just passing by love their place:
  • “Excited to catch up with friends and family over a craft brew or two”
  • “They have a great selection of craft brews”
  • “Every time we come in town, this is our go to place to eat”

Save The World Brewing Co

Craft Brewery in Marble Falls - 63.42 mi

Save The World Brewing Company started in 2012 when husband and wife team, Dave and Quynh Rathkamp decided to swap their jobs as physicians to open “Americas first 100% philanthropic production craft brewery.” The brewery produces authentic Belgian-style beer you can feel good about. Its malt is imported from Belgium or Germany, and even the local water is perfect for the process. Save the world brewing also offers some games that you can play including corn hole, big block jenga, ring toss, as well as cards & board games. Grab a bottle and decide for yourself, knowing that you’re helping to save the world one beer at a time!

Eola School Restaurant and Brewery

Craft Brewery in Eola - 65.26 mi

Meet Mark Cannon. He’s the owner of Eola School Restaurant and Brewery. He brews the beer, cooks the delicious burgers and fries, makes homemade pizza, does all the cleaning and renovation work required, and tends to the garden that supplies most of his restaurant’s needs. Some have called him “a real Renaissance man”. The brewery and restaurant was once a school from 1928 to 1983, and back then, the center of the community of Eola. Mark is from Portland, Oregon but his roots are in Texas. After arriving in 2003, he soon purchased the school. Many speculate his was the only offer. The place still looks like “an unfinished construction zone” according to some, but being a one-man show, many have also admired what he’s done with the place. If you can overlook the “rough edges”, Mark’s brewery, restaurant, and his Farm Ale have a cult-like following on the internet, and seem deserving of the 5-stars he gets.

Double Horn Brewing Co

Craft Brewery in Marble Falls - 65.27 mi

Originally established by two husband-and-wife teams in 2011, Double Horn Brewing Company has been under new ownership since Fall 2016. The brewery continues to take pride in “providing some of the best beer in Central Texas”. The brewery takes its name from a tiny Texas town founded in 1885. It refers to an incident at the nearby creek where the “remains of two bucks with interlocked antlers” were found. Presumably, the deers tussled and died with antlers entangled. The brewery hopes “to capture, preserve, and celebrate the pioneering spirit and inventiveness” of the early Texas communities. At the time of its opening, the Double Horn was the only brewery in Burnet County. It still is. Despite the change in ownership, they continue to serve both lunch and dinner. Josh Alexander, the new owner, expanded the menu and included takeaway and catering options. Besides their in-house brews, they also have guest beers on rotation.

Bear King Brewing

Craft Brewery in Marble Falls - 65.38 mi

Bear King Brewing Company owes its name to the legend of the bear king of Marble Falls. Guidry brothers JD, Grant, and Blake, together with Jackie Blakely, their sister, joined forces and took on different roles in putting up the company. Each sibling undertakes a different side of the business with JD, a professional brewer, as head brewer. The brewery and taproom offers the community of Marble Falls a place to gather because they believe that “stories… whether tall tales or plain truth, are (best) shared over a beer”. They currently have six beers on tap, with plans to can their brews. The taproom and restaurant is 5,500 square feet of indoor seating for 200 guests. There’s outside seating at the “Beargarten”, with patio games and live music for the family-friendly space. Just like the local legend that inspired its name, they hope that their guests can create legends of their own.

Horny Toad Brewing Co

Craft Brewery in Rowena - 67.02 mi

The small town of Rowena has a population of only about 700 inhabitants. However, that didn’t deter Mike McNeill from putting up Horny Toad Brewing Company. His wife Diane was originally from Rowena, and they decided to move back to town in 2011. He acquired and converted the old Rowena Filling Station which serves as his brewery and taproom. The brewery is directly across a memorial dedicated to the prohibition. Taproom visitors feel more like members of a very large family according to Mike. The brewery is open only on the first Saturday of each month. Mike still keeps his full time job as a civilian contractor at Goodfellow Air Force Base in San Angelo. The rest of the month he spends brewing his beers on his 7-barrel system, which runs on manual power. He self-distributes his beers to various pubs in the San Angelo area including the brewery’s flagship beer Angelo Amber.

The company makes use of a well-restored two-storey 1890s era building to house all these offerings. The Bed & Brew, just like a bed and breakfast, gives guests a chance to experience a stay at one of twelve rooms available from the brewery. Too drunk to get home? Just proceed to the second floor! You don’t get breakfast, but you do get a pint for each night’s stay! If that doesn’t convince you to give them a try, perhaps their award-winning beers will.
